Last year, several lake property owners participated in shoreline planting projects with financial assistance from a DNR grant obtained by the Lake District. One of these sites is located in the Northwest bay of Big Lake where three property owners have installed native plantings on their shoreline and you can watch the development of these plants over the summer.
As you cruise around the lakes this summer, notice the beauty of the natural or restored shorelines. Besides providing beauty, a healthy lakeshore with native plants and trees protects our lakes by decreasing runoff and improving habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife.
